The A14 has been closed eastbound in Northamptonshire following a serious crash early on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a smash involving a car and lorry between Junction 13 for Thrapston and Junction 14 at around 7.40am.

One lane was initially closed but police has now shut the whole carriageway at Junction 13 to allow an Air Ambulance to land.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "We are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on the A14 between junctions 13 and 14, near Thrapston.

"Both carriageways are shut and motorists are advised to avoid the area."

Highways England have issued advice to follow diversion routes via the A605 to the A1 southbound and rejoin the A14 eastbound at J21 Brampton Hut interchange.
