20mph speed limit rolled out across Northampton estate

A new 20mph speed limit covering dozens of residential streets in Grange Park has officially been introduced by West Northamptonshire Council.

The order, made under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, will reduce the speed limit to 20 miles per hour on a number of roads across the Northampton estate. The new restriction comes into effect on February 16 2026.

The council said the change applies to specific lengths of highway as detailed in the schedule accompanying the order and shown on an official map.

Roads affected include Barn Close, Bridge Meadow Way, Brook View, Foxfield Way, Harefield Hazel Copse, Kings Close, Little Field, Lodge Close, Millers Way, Ploughmans Way, Quintonside, Rickyard Walk, School Lane, The Meadows, The Ridings, The Rookery, The Spinney, Wake Way, the Wake Way and Bridge Meadow Way junction, the Wake Way/Saxon Avenue/Williams Way roundabout, and Wootton Road.

A copy of the order can be inspected by appointment at Kier Highways, Brixworth Depot, Harborough Road, Brixworth. Appointments can be arranged by calling 01604 529700. Copies can also be requested via email at [email protected].

Anyone wishing to challenge the validity of the order, or any of its provisions, may apply to the High Court within six weeks from the date on which the order was made, which was February 12. Challenges can be made on the grounds that the order is not within the powers conferred by the Act, or that required procedures have not been complied with.
