Three people taken to hospital following multi-vehicle crash on the M1 in Northamptonshire

A crash involving a number of vehicles closed the M1 in Northamptonshire this afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 4.05pm to the M1 northbound just before junction 16 for Northampton/Daventry where there was a crash involved a lorry, a van and two cars.

Police closed the northbound carriageway to deal with the incident.

The motorway was due to open at around 5.30pm.

Dave Lee from the Northants Road Policing Unit said: “Update on the M1. Four vehicles involved. An LGV, van and two cars. Three persons taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“We are working hard to get the M1 reopened folks. Vehicles involved are quite well stuck together.

“M1 North prior to junction 16 will be reopen about 1730. Very long delays going northbound prior to junction 16 folks.

“Delays M1 southbound around junction 16 due to rubber neckers looking at the RTC northbound.”
