Stolen bikes repaired by young offenders set to be sold in Northampton

Up to 50 refurbished bicycles, which have been stolen or recovered, are set to be sold in Northampton to raise money for a charity as part of a scheme aimed at reducing crime.

The project, known as Cycl-opps gives young offenders the chance to learn basic bike repair techniques in the hope their new skills will help them secure work and turn away from crime.

The initiative was created by Northamptonshire Police in partnership with Goodwill Solutions, Growing Together and the Northamptonshire Youth Offending Service.

All profits raised from the event are set to be reinvested into the project to support the Cycl-opps initiative, which helps to engage with young people and improve employability.

Cycl-opps bikes sold through the scheme on the day will be security marked, free-of-charge with the owner’s details, so that if they are lost or stolen they can be identified and returned to their owner.

The event will be held at the Grosvenor Centre on Friday, December 2, from 10am.
