Speedier broadband for firms on Brackmills estate in Northampton

Firms on the Brackmills estate in Northampton are benefitting from improved broadband speeds following investment from the Brackmills Business Improvement District (BID)

In 2015 the BID conducted a detailed survey and asked businesses on the estate about their current contracts, Broadband speeds and what improvements they wanted for 2016. Businesses almost unanimously asked for more speed and connectivity.

Sara Homer, Chair of the Brackmills BID, said: “The results flagged up a demand from businesses of all sizes on the estate, with both international companies and the small to medium sized enterprises telling us they wanted speedier broadband and an investment in improved connectivity.

“Once we knew the demand was there we set about looking at cost effective solutions and invested £7,000 into broadband trials, software security upgrades and the survey. This investment has levered in a £100,000 update to our broadband – a staggering return on our investment and yet another reason for companies to want to do business on Brackmills.”

Following its survey Brackmills has been working closely with broadband supplier WarwickNet, which has upgraded two of the estate’s seven cabinets on the estate’s Kilvey Road and Salthouse Road to provide superfast fibre broadband to companies based there.

A further two broadband cabinets will be upgraded this year, set to benefit businesses based in Monarch Courtyard, Osyth Close, Liliput Road area of the estate. In total 114 of the 158 businesses on Brackmills are set to benefit from this investment in broadband over the course of the next nine months.

Ben King, chief executive officer at WarwickNet, said: “Northamptonshire is quickly becoming one of our most connected counties and providing business grade connectivity to Brackmills is another connecting piece in the county’s broadband ‘need for speed’ and means that even more businesses can benefit from our services.

“We’ll be offering a range of services and high-capacity leased lines, along with voice and online backup capabilities and can provide tailored packages to suit every organisation.”
