Severe delays after serious collision CLOSES M1 near Northamptonshire

The M1 northbound between junctions 19 (Catthorpe) and 20 (Market Harborough) has been closed due to a serious collision at around 7am this morning (April 9)

Leicestershire Police and paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance service were on the scene.

Traffic is being diverted through the hollow circle route.

Highways England reports that there are currently three miles of congestion on approach to the closure and they have advised drivers to avoid the area.

Highways England tweeted: "There are delays of 45 minutes above the usual travel time on approach to this #M1 J19 - J20 closure. Traffic is being diverted via the hollow circle diversion route, please also consider continuing along M6 to J2, taking the M69 north to re-join the M1 at J21."

Leicestershire Police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
