A child in a push chair fell into the lake in Abington Park yesterday (Thursday, April 30) - prompting a rush from bystanders to rescue them.

An eye-witness saw a family feeding the ducks in the lake by the swings at around 5.50pm and gave them a wide berth.

"Then I heard a splash and commotion, thinking it was a dog in the water," they said.

"Shockingly I then realised the splash was caused by a push chair containing a child inside it.

"I then saw an elderly man go in the water and for a few seconds he struggled to get the child out.

"The elderly man was shouting and eventually got the child out, while other people rushed to the family's aid."
