Scholar Melissa's graduation success

A Northampton student who was chosen to benefit from a bursary has banked the top award handed out by a national High Street bank.

Melissa McGovern has celebrated graduating from the prestigious Lloyds Scholars programme at a ceremony in London – at which she was awarded the Lloyds Scholars Champions Award.

Supported by the social mobility programme from Lloyds Banking Group, Melissa had been studying English at the University of Birmingham and was awarded the Lloyds Scholars Champions Award in recognition of having made the most of the programme, from her volunteering commitment through to her dedication to her internship.

The Lloyds Scholars programme offers financial assistance, two paid 10-week internships, and a dedicated mentor from the bank to help support talented undergraduates from lower income backgrounds.

Lloyds Scholars are also required to complete at least 100 hours of volunteering in their local area alongside their studies, to make a difference within their communities.

Paul O’Neill, head of Lloyds Scholars, said: “Congratulations to Melissa, she has been a fantastic ambassador for the Lloyds Scholars programme, helping to bring to life the group’s ambition to help Britain prosper through addressing inequality, supporting disadvantaged people and championing Britain’s diversity. I look forward to seeing her career progress and wish her every success for the future.”
