Road Closures announced as Women's Tour comes to Northamptonshire

A series of road closures will take place around Northamptonshire when the Aviva Women's Tour reaches the county next weekend.

The county is hosting the fifth and final stage of the world class cycling event, which starts at 10.30am outside Northampton’s Guildhall and finishes at around 2pm in Kettering town centre.

A rolling road closure along the route will be put into action by a team of police and specialist motorcyclists travelling in advance of the riders with closures expected to be for between 20 and 30 minutes at a time.

The Ridings, Spring Gardens, Derngate, Guildhall Road, St Giles Street, Dychurch Lane, Mercers Row and George Row in Northampton will be closed from 4am to 1pm.

In Kettering; Gipsy Lane, Northampton Road and a short section of Sheep Street to the south of Northampton Road, will be closed between 12pm and 3pm.

The northern part of Sheep Street, the part outside the library, will be closed throughout the day in order to house the race village.

Market Place, High Street and Market Street in Kettering will also be closed from 4.45am until 6pm.

Parking will also be limited with restrictions in place from 5pm on Saturday, June 18, in Derngate, Guildhall Road and around All Saints Church in Northampton, and from 6pm in Sheep Street and Market Street in Kettering.

London Road car park in Kettering will be closed to the public as it will be used by the race teams.

Free parking will be available at Northampton Road Recreation Ground.
