The Leicester Terrace surgery of Semilong was visited by CQC inspectors (the independent regulator of health and social care in England) earlier this year and has since recieved positive appraisal.

Following the visit, the CQC issued a report this month, which says the practice has sustained measurable improvement in recognising and understanding the needs of carers.

Senior Partner, Doctor David Smart said: “We are thrilled that the hard work of the whole team to provide high quality care has been recognised by CQC.

“We are especially proud of our work with carers and emerging partnerships with community organisations which we hope to develop further. We are delighted with the positive feedback from our patients and will continue to use all feedback to inform further service development.”

Patients who visit the practice have said that they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment.

The surgery has also been awarded for building positive relationships with local organisations that were able to provide life skills, emotional support and advice for patients, as well as welcoming innovation and practicing demonstrated clear, strong and effective management.

Dr Matthew Davies, Medical Director at NHS Nene Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We are delighted for Dr Smart and all at Leicester Terrace who have worked so hard to get this tremendous result. To achieve an ‘outstanding’ ranking from the CQC is significant and is truly reflective of the practice’s team’s dedication to providing the best service for their patients.”

Leicester Terrace has also recently taken over the “Caretaker contract” of Clarence Avenue surgery working in partnership with Greenview surgery from 1 October.

Greenview surgery, Langham Place and Leicester Terrace healthcare centre are developing new way of addressing-on-the-day demand with each surgery taking one day a week to provide same day appointments for all three surgeries.

Doctor Smart adds: “Current demand for same day appointments has become unsustainable and we need alternative ways of addressing demand towards maximising patient self-care and new pathways with pharmacists, physiotherapy, mental health professionals and third sector organisations to meet this demand in a more sustainable way.”
