Pub turned-nursery in Northampton receives 'outstanding' first Ofsted report
The Blackthorn Good Neighbours community association set up a nursery in the building once occupied by the Pig and Whistle pub towards the end of 2014, with the help of National Lottery funding.
But despite initial opposition to the move from pub regulars, the nursery has passed its first inspection with flying colours, gaining an "outstanding" from Government watchdog Ofsted.

It goes on to say: "Children show high levels of self-esteem and confidence. Behaviour is excellent. Staff praise and respect children’s efforts and ideas, and encourage them to share their ideas with others by modelling what they have learnt through play."
Chairman of Blackthorn Good Neighbours Ann Gilbert said she was thrilled with the rating.
She said: "I'm delighted that the nursery has got the recognition it deserves – the staff work really hard to ensure that children enjoy their time there and that they leave the nursery ready to start school."
