Pub fire was accidental

Police officers were called out to the Wayfarers pub at 5.45pm last night (Thursday) by the fire brigade who had been alerted several minutes earlier.

The fire service sent four appliances out to the fire, which was not believed to be serious, and police officers closed London Road to traffic.

The Wayfarers was seriously damaged after an arson attack in March this year.

Workmen had been renovating the pub recently to allow it to reopen.

But last night’s fire has been confirmed as being accidental. There was only minor smoke damage to the building.
