Popcorn in the park at Daventry's cinema event

Crowds headed along to Daventry Country Park for the annual free cinema day, with Back to the Future and Minions being screened.

With the hot temperatures plenty of people took the opportunity to lie in the sun and watch two classic family films.

The films were shown twice, in two blocks over the afternoon to allow as many people as possible to come along.

There was also refreshments, a bouncy castle and face painting. Daventry Area Community Transport (DACT) provided a free shuttle bus service to Lodge Road in the town centre to ease parking at the country park.

Councillor Alan Hills, portfolio holder for community, culture and leisure at Daventry District Council, said: “The Daventry Family Cinema Day has become a really fantastic tradition at the country park. This was the sixth event and it was another wonderful day, blessed with great weather and a really friendly atmosphere. We’ve had some really positive feedback from the 1,400 or so people who attended, which is very pleasing too.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers and partners who helped the day run so smoothly, including the 497 (Daventry) Air Cadets, Daventry Town Council, the Futures Housing Group and their Youth Board, and of course Daventry Area Community Transport, who had a very busy day operating the free park and ride service.

“It’s the perfect way to start the school summer holidays and we look forward to running it again next year.”
