Young people urged to stand for new West Northamptonshire Youth Council
Nominations have opened for the next West Northamptonshire Youth Council, with young people being invited to put themselves forward to help shape decisions affecting their communities.
West Northamptonshire Council, working in partnership with Clubs for Young People, is encouraging those aged 11 to 18 who live, study, work or volunteer in the area to stand as Youth Councillors for the 2026 to 2028 term, which runs from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2028.
Youth Councillors play an active role in local democracy, representing the views of young people and influencing decisions on issues that matter most to them. Members meet senior decision-makers, take part in debates, speak at events and ensure young people’s voices are heard at local and regional level.
The Youth Council is a fully democratic programme made up of elected representatives. Those elected are expected to champion youth priorities and contribute to discussions that help shape council policy.

Council leader Councillor Mark Arnull said the scheme offered a “fantastic opportunity” for young people to make a difference, praising the outgoing Youth Council for raising the area’s profile and tackling issues such as knife crime prevention, online safety and youth employment.
“Your ideas, energy and insight are vital to helping us build a community that works for everyone,” Councillor Arnull added.
Applicants must complete an online form and submit a short manifesto by January 23, 2026. All valid entries will go to a public vote, with the 20 highest-polling candidates forming the new Youth Council.
