West Northamptonshire Lib Dems delay election campaign launch as mark of respect to Duke of Edinburgh
Party pays tribute to Prince Philip's 'long and remarkable service' to the UK
West Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats have delayed the launch of their campaign for next month's elections as a mark of respect to the Duke of Edinburgh
The launch was due to take place on Friday afternoon (April 17) but will now take place on Sunday because of Prince Philip's death at the age of 99.
The Queen's consort's funeral will take place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle at 3pm on Saturday, after which the period of national mourning will end.
Andrew Simpson, from the Lib Dems, said: "As a mark of our great respect to the long and remarkable service that the Duke of Edinburgh has given our country, including his extensive commitment and work to benefit young people and environmental causes, our campaign launch will now take place after the funeral when the national mourning period is over.”
Elections for West Northamptonshire Council, town and parish councils and the police, fire and crime commissioner are on Thursday May 6.
