Polling stations across the county closed at 10pm last night and the election will see candidates across the 31 wards in Northampton, Daventry and South Northamptonshire come together to form the new West Northamptonshire Council unitary authority.

There’s going to be a recount for the Headlands ward...Sixfields and Bugbrooke are expected next.

Paul Clark, new Conservative councillor for Billing and Rectory Farm, said: "I'm very, very pleased and I feel honoured.

"It's my first time so there is a lot for me to learn in the next few weeks, but I can't wait to get going and to work with the constituents.

"I'm a grassroots guy and I love my town and I want to make it great again.

"Some areas need improvements and I want to look at them and see what improvements and support we can give, with the town centre too.

"I want to lose the Labour/Conservative part and work together with other councillors as a team.

"We all have great value."

Keith Holland, Labour councillor for Billing and Rectory, said: "I’m very grateful to the people of Billing and Rectory Farm for electing me.

"I'm looking forward to continuing to serve the community. My priorities are looking out for the estates and the green spaces and the organisations on the ground who already do a fantastic job.

"I will do my best to work with the other councillors to make sure our community gets what it needs.

"I'm proud to have grown up in the area. I know many people in the area and I look forward to being visible on the ground."

Zoe Smith, Bob Purser and Walter Tarasiewiz, all Labour, are elected

James Hill after being elected for Billing and Rectory Farm said: "I'm exhausted but very happy. I'm really pleased that two Conservatives have been elected in our area.

"I'm now looking forward to getting to know the new council and its functions and familiarising myself with the areas and getting myself out there to help make improve the area to make it a better place to live."
