And Magdalen College School in Brackley is earmarked to receive £3.22 million to build a new teaching block which will allow it to increase its capacity at the school by 30 pupils in each year group.

Both are academies and will manage their own project, following their procurement processes. The money has been allocated from the council’s section 106 funds, which come from housing developer contributions towards infrastructure.

Conservative members of Northamptonshire County Council’s cabinet are set to approve the funding at a meeting on April 14.

Detailing the funding to Moulton School and Science College, a report to be read by councillors states: “There has been significant housing developments in the village and their linked area in recent years, which has generated section 106 funds which specifically name the school as recipient.

“The school is at or over capacity in all its year groups and is experiencing overcrowding difficulties which has led to health and safety concerns.”

And on Magdalen College School, it states: “Significant housing building, including a 1,000 housing development at Radstone Fields, has increased demand for secondary schools places at Magdalen and generated section 106 funds specifically for the school.

“The school plans to build a new teaching block to include nine classrooms, four music practice rooms, associated ancillary spaces and changing facilities for the existing adjacent sports hall. This will enable them to increase their admission number by 30 places per year group.”

The funds will be transferred to the schools on a monthly basis on receipt of sectional completion and contractor invoices.
