The town is one of 100 across the country that has been invited to bid for up to £25 million funding through the Government’s Town Fund.

To help secure a share of this funding the Northampton Forward board – the steerholding group made of stakeholders such as Northampton Borough Council, the town’s BID group and the University – is producing a Town Investment Plan which needs to provide a long-term vision for Northampton.

And residents are set to be asked which of the schemes should be prioritised as part of a month long public consultation in September.

Projects that have been put forward include a new sustainable residential development on Abington Street, a residential scheme at Greyfriars or a bus and coach interchange on the same site, a heritage park in Marefair and the Four Waterside Gateway development.

Borough council leader Jonathan Nunn said: “This is an exciting time for Northampton as we have a huge potential to deliver re-invention with significant investment opportunities for the town coming forward.

“It is vital that the public get to have their say with ideas that will directly shape the future of Northampton and play a part in this grant bidding process, as we take this once in a lifetime opportunity to transform Northampton and make the town the best it can be for generations to come.”
