It marks an extra £3 million sent out to firms this week. Last week, the council processed 647 applications, but this week it fell to a more modest 171 as the authority approaches the final, more complex, applications that it needs to apply due diligence to.

As of Tuesday night (May 12), the borough council had received 3,272 requests for grants overall, of which 2,239 have so far been paid at a total value of £28.265 million.

It has also rejected 765 applications – a number of which have been due to duplicate applications – and there are 268 still pending that the council must deal with.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands that up to 400 premises who have been listed as eligible have not yet applied for the grants, and that the borough council is keen for anyone who is eligible to come forward.

It also understands that the authority is unlikely to find enough eligible businesses to maximise its £37.3 million initial allocation from the Government, which was based on estimates. Any unused funds will revert back to the Government.

Companies are urged to check their eligibility on the government website, before applying on the borough council’s website here: https://br-grant-nbc.lgss-revs-bens.com/
