Plans submitted to convert Northampton homes into flats and HMO
Plans ranging from new housing and apartments in Northampton to major school expansion works and countryside development have been submitted to West Northamptonshire Council.
Among the applications is a proposal to convert a property in Billing Road, Northampton, into a large house in multiple occupation. The plans for 20 Billing Road seek permission to change the existing three-storey dwelling into a seven-bedroom HMO, which would remain within residential use class C3.
Another Northampton scheme has been submitted for 21A Welford Road, where an applicant is seeking to change the use of a former holistic centre into three self-contained apartments.
Elsewhere in the county, a major rural housing development has been proposed at Green Stables, Welford Road, Creaton. The application includes the demolition of existing stable buildings and the construction of a six-bedroom home, along with a garage block, pool building, stables and menage, a dovecote and a solar array.

A major planning application has also been submitted for Sponne School in Towcester, which would see three ancillary outbuildings removed and replaced with a new two-storey teaching block. The proposed development includes 12 classrooms, two meeting rooms and a staff room, as well as changes to the surrounding grounds, new access routes, a canopy structure and an extension of the car park to create 14 additional parking spaces.
Smaller-scale applications include a retrospective gazebo at 1 Ten Cottages, Harlestone Road, Church Brampton, and listed building consent works at Beeches Farm, Greenside, Wappenham, where permission is sought to remove lath and plaster to expose historic paneling in a living room.
All applications can be viewed online via West Northamptonshire Council’s planning portal or at council offices. Members of the public have 21 days to comment on the proposals, with representations accepted online or by post to the planning department at The Guildhall, St Giles Square, Northampton.
