A new application has been submitted to the Guildhall to alter plans to extend part of a Pearce Leather Works, which has been the target of vandalism since 2002, into more flats.

The art deco-styled office was used for over 60 years and the original factory that stood behind it was demolished for housing in 2010, with 126 homes being built by Clayson, which is now turning its attention to the remaining building.

But in the newest application submitted in December 2020, the number of flats to be built has been tweaked to become 28 apartments, which would be comprised of 19 one-bedroom flats and nine two-bedroom flats, with 48 car parking spaces.

The Grade II listed building has stood empty since 2002 and has become the target of vandalism over the years.

Planning papers say: 'The proposed renovation of the existing building mainly follows the structure of the existing building, with only minor additions proposed. The building is comprised of a ground and first floor.

'The building will be renovated to match the existing features, design and materials, and will ensure the buildings historic character is maintained'.
