The homes would be built on land at Derwent Drive. Part of the site was occupied by a block of 53 single garages which have since been demolished.

Permission is being sought by Northampton Partnership Homes (NPH) for the erection of five terraced two-storey houses, each with its own private rear garden approximately 13 metres long. Twelve off road parking spaces will be provided to serve the development including two disabled spaces.

It is the latest in a number of applications from NPH that have focused on building homes on lock up garages across the town.

Five objections from neighbours have been received, focusing on what they claim is a ‘lack of public consultation’, a lack of turning space leading to parking and highways issues, and some properties overlooking.

Ward councillor Terrie Eales meanwhile has express concerns over ‘access being tight, parking and access for emergency vehicles’.

But planning officers say that the site is ‘in an existing residential area within the built up area of Northampton and the principle of development is therefore acceptable’.

Members of the planning committee will determine whether to follow officer advice and approve the application when they meet virtually on Tuesday (November 24).
