'Massive queue' on Northampton residential street this weekend was for Moldova's elections

A 'massive queue' of people on a Northampton town centre street over the weekend was because of presidential elections .. in MOLDOVA.

Hundreds of citizens queued up on Earl Street and Great Russell Street across Sunday (October 2) so they could cast their vote for Moldova's next president.

Moldova restaurant on Great Russell Street opened as a polling station for residents to vote and helped arrange for neighbourhood officers to ensure social distancing was in place.

The Chronicle & Echo received several messages from Northampton residents asking what the gathering was about.

Results are still being tallied, but early reports suggest opposition leader Maia Sandu could have earned a narrow majority over incumbant president Igor Dodon.
