Friday deadline to sign up for another year of garden waste collections in Daventry

Daventry residents have until this FRIDAY (May 15) to make sure the local council will carry on collecting their garden waste for another year.

The 'brown bin year' runs from the start of June to the end of May with households paying £37 to have their garden waste taken away fortnightly.

But District Council chiefs are warning residents to renewed their subscription online to ensure no disruption to their collection cycle.

Residents can renew or sign up for the service using their credit or debit card or by direct debit by following the sign-up link at the council website HERE.

Those who sign up get a permit to stick on their bin. No sticker .. no collection.

And those who choose not to renew the service for the rest of this year and until May 2021 will receive their last garden waste collections during the week beginning May 25.

More than 20,000 homes signed up to the chargeable garden waste service since it was introduced in June 2018 by Daventry District Council and its environmental services partner Daventry Norse.

The service is not paid for by Council Tax and was made optional and self-funding so it could continue for only those who want it.

Northampton Borough Council last month introduced its own £42-a-year garden waste collection service despite fierce opposition, bringing it into line with around two-thirds of local authorites in the UK.

But the service is still free in neighbouring South Northamptonshire.
