Plans have been submitted to build a two-storey, 66-bed care home in Overstone Leys, Northampton, to provide a "high-quality" of life for elderly residents.

The plans were submitted by Yorkshire-based LNT Care Development to Northampton Borough Council's planning committee - a decision is yet to be made to give it the go-ahead.

The planning documents say the home would provide two types of care - general residential and residential dementia. LNT also said in the documents that the care home would provide a "positive impact" on the area and would also create employment in the town.

The design and access statement reads: "The objective is to provide a character of accommodation that would provide a higher quality of life for residents than more conventionally designed facilities.

"In addition, it is to provide accommodation respectful of the character and appearance of the area that makes best use of the site's most positive assets, attributes and aspects.

"The development of a 66-bed care home is considered suitable in this location given the predominantly residential nature of the surrounding area and the developing local centre, the adequacy of transport links and the site's general accessibility and sustainability.

"It is anticipated that some 50-60 jobs would be created working to a rotational shift pattern of employment, however, only up to a maximum of 24 members of staff would be present on site at any one time."

LNT also said the site's access is proposed from a newly formed route leading from the new estate road which leads south from Sywell Road.

The care home could also feature a cafe, landscaped garden and space for visitors to see loved ones.

On its website, LNT says it utilises in-house software to identify areas of under supply of quality care beds to ensure there is a demographic and economic need for its schemes.
