Plans progress to build warehouses next to Northampton Town Football Club’s Sixfields Stadium

Plans to build a warehousing development next to Northampton Town Football Club’s Sixfields Stadium have taken a step forward.

A public consultation took place in the newly completed LCS East Stand on Thursday (April 24), which gave residents, supporters and stakeholders the chance to view proposals, speak to the project team, and provide feedback.

The proposed scheme covers a 19-acre site adjacent to the stadium and forms part of the wider Sixfields development plan announced in 2021.

The club says it is working with architects PRC on the proposal, which focuses on creating a “highly sustainable” industrial warehouse development in line with West Northamptonshire Council’s (WNC) local plan.

The club says the site lies within the ‘Golden Triangle’ logistics hub and is intended to generate income for the club while contributing to the town’s economic growth.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “A lot of work and discussion with a wide variety of stakeholders has taken place to get to this point, especially to decide what is the best proposal for the football club now and in the future.

“We are very excited to continue to deliver on the plan we announced in 2021. The first part of that plan was the completion of the LCS East Stand, which is now operational and benefitting the football club on a daily basis. This public consultation was the next step, and it was encouraging to see so many people engage with the proposals.”

The club said that feedback from the consultation will be incorporated into the final planning application, which is expected to be submitted soon.

The new stand, which had been under construction for more than a decade, was officially completed earlier this month.

According to the club, the warehousing project could deliver a range of benefits, including:

For the club:

  • New revenue streams through commercial leases
  • Greater financial security and potential debt reduction
  • Improved matchday experience and facilities
  • Stronger community partnerships and sponsorship opportunities
  • Job creation for residents

For the area:

  • A minimum of 450 new jobs
  • Support for Northampton’s role as a logistics and employment hub
  • Boosts to footfall for nearby shops and services
  • Opportunities for investment and business growth
  • Potential improvements in infrastructure, transport, and public amenities
  • A focus on sustainable design and green landscaping
