More food waste collections are being missed in Northampton this week as Covid-19 continues to take its toll on Borough Council workers.

Residents in Kingsthorpe, Acre Lane, the Welford Road area and Whitehills in the north of the town, plus Lings, Little Billing, Orchard Hill and Fishponds Road have all been told their food waste will not be picked up as usual this week due to "due to staffing limitations."

Northampton Borough Council's waste and recycling service last week revealed coronavirus is still causing issues with staffing levels as some of the workforce are forced to self-isolate either with symptoms of their own or following contact with someone who is infected.

A council spokesman said: "We are working closely with our partner Veolia to minimise the impact of coronavirus on recycling and waste services, street cleaning and other key environmental services.

“We have managed to maintain the vast majority of waste collection services in extremely challenging circumstances during the past three months.

"As coronavirus continues to have an impact, we must make the best use of our workforce capacity and this periodically means suspending the occasional round.

"In areas where this happens, residents are able to re-present the uncollected waste the following week."
