Brackley Town snap up free agent midfielder following exit from Premier League club

Brackley Town have completed the signing of midfielder Kai Yearn after his departure from newly-promoted Premier League club Coventry City.

Saints boss Andy Whing recently admitted that his side haven’t completed as many acquisitions as he hoped at this stage, but Yearn’s arrival edges them that bit closer.

Brackley Town have signed Kai Yearn following his departure from Coventry City.

Yearn began his career at Cambridge United and became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer on his senior debut, later earning him a move to Coventry in 2024.

Whilst with the Sky Blues, Yearn captained the under-21 squad and went out on loan to the likes of Chelmsford City, King’s Lynn Town, Maidenhead United and Chesham United to gain valuable first-team experience.

Yearn never made a senior appearance for Coventry but his loan to Chesham proved he can perform well at Step 2, as he scored nine goals in 19 National League South appearances throughout last season.

Becoming Brackley’s 11th new addition of the summer, Yearn increases the Saints’ first-team squad tally to 14.

Upon joining Brackley, Yearn said: “I’m an attacking midfielder who wants to create chances, score goals and make things happen for the team.

“But I’m also someone who works hard, contributes in every way I can and does everything possible to help the team win.

“After speaking with the gaffer, I was really impressed by the ambition here. It fits perfectly with my own ambitions and where I want to go in football.

“I believe this is a place where I can be successful, but more importantly, where the team can be successful too – and hopefully achieve promotion.”

Yearn ironically made his non-competitive debut in Brackley’s 4-0 win away at Coventry Under-21, playing an hour before being replaced by DJ Sturridge.

Two trialists scored goals in that victory, so we could see more players put pen to paper in the coming days ahead of the season starting on August 8.
