PICTURES: Successful food festival in Northamptonshire could lead to winter spin-off

The annual Towcester Food Festival, at Towcester racecourse allowed dozens of food businesses to showcase their wares including giant custard-filled doughnuts, pork and black pudding pies, charcoal cheese and gold-flecked sparkling wine.

Cookery demonstrations and talks on wine and gin also helped boost people’s culinary knowledge.

By coincidence, there was also even a greyhound meet on the second of the two-days.

This summer’s event has been so successful, organiser Crispin Slee said the same team is considering a winter version.

He said: “There’s no reason why we couldn’t so one in mid-November too.

“You would have to have an indoor, heated marquee but all we would require is a suitable venue.”

A second food festival would likely be popular with traders, with several reporting after Saturday and Sunday’s event that they had sold out of stock.

Another, Yartey Cordial, said it was their best weekend of trading in the seven years since they were established.

Mr Slee said: “I think its a great opportunity to put traders in front of their customers and get feedback that you can’t get selling to shops or over the internet.

“Half the companies were from Northamptonshire this year and it’s great to be able to give them a boost.”
