Pictures show £2 million Northampton nightclub revamp with on site vulnerability centre

Platform - which now occupies both Auntie Ruths Bar and The Black Bottom Club in George Row - plays host to a cafe, a nightclub boasting three rooms and a conference centre for up to 120 people.

Bosses at the club say there is heightened security at the venue with a 16-strong security team - eight of whom wear body cameras - and there will be a street marshalling project in place on a Wednesday night to usher students back to the Waterside Campus.

As campaigned for by the Chronicle & Echo, Platform also has an on site vulnerability centre, fitted with a shower, a toilet and two rooms intended for East Midlands Ambulance Service and Northamptonshire Police to use, but it is not yet in operation.

The £2 million project, which opened two weeks ago has already welcomed Radio 1 DJ's Scott Mills and Chris Stark through their doors as well as DJ Sub Focus.

General manager Matthew Nunn said: "We want to create a safer environment, I think that's something that Northampton needs. We have a larger security team than what is expected of us."

The club, which holds 1,000 people, has wheelchair facilities throughout and is open to the general public on Friday and Saturday nights and students and their guests midweek - with entry fees starting from £1.
