Tree falls on Rushden house as high winds batter Northamptonshire

Emergency services are dealing with a number of fallen trees after a night of high winds across Northamptonshire.

Firefighters were called to reports of one tree down affecting domestic premises in Rushden.

And bus operator Stagecoach says its X46 and X47 serives will not be stopping at Lings Way roundabout on the Wellingborough Road in Northampton due to a tree across the road.

A Met Office warning is in force until 3pm with weather watchers forecasting damaging gusts of up to 60mph and heavy showers coming in from the west.

The strongest gust recorded so far today at the Met Office weather station at Pitsford was 44.5mph at 5.52am.

Police are warning drivers to take care in the conditions.

PC Aaron Griffths said: "Be careful if you have to drive Your car will handle differently in windy and wet conditions, allow more braking distances and consider your speed!"
