Travellers parked up in hidden spot in Northampton neighbourhood reportedly moved on by police and council

Travellers parked up in a hidden spot in a Northampton neighbourhood have reportedly been moved on by the authorities.

The group of around five caravans recently pitched up at a spot surrounded by bushes just off Ladybridge Drive in West Hunsbury, opposite Teal Close, near Ladybridge Park.

Conservative councillor Pinder Chauhan (Hunsbury ward) said: “I've had to be quiet on social media regarding the traveller encampment in West Hunsbury. However, now that the relevant notices have been served, I can provide you with an update.

“Over the last few days I have been working with the council, the travellers unit and police.

"A big thank you to the countywide travellers unit for putting together a comprehensive report, helping Northamptonshire Police to serve notice to the encampment on Thursday afternoon (June 11).

“The travellers will have moved on by Thursday.

“I will also be meeting up with officers to look at any vulnerable areas which could lead to future encampments in the Hunsbury Ward to secure these open areas.”

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for West Northants Council said: “We are aware of the encampment. Colleagues from the Northamptonshire Traveller Unit are assessing the situation in line with established processes.”
