Tidy Our Town: St Crispin Retirement Village says it is ‘very important to take pride’ ahead of group litter pick
St Crispin Retirement Village says it is “very important to take pride in your community” ahead of their group litter pick as part of ‘The Big Help Out’.
From 2pm on June 7, starting at St Crispin Drive, the Retirement Village is hosting a community litter pick and encourages as many people as possible to get involved.
Keep Britain Tidy has joined the upcoming Big Help Out and is calling on its army of litter heroes to tackle the rubbish affecting our wildlife, streets, countryside, and sense of pride for where we live.
Larissa Webb, who is the new lifestyle coach at St Crispin Retirement Village, knew now was the right time for them to host their first community litter pick.

The plan is to form strong connections with the surrounding communities, which starts on June 7 by bringing many people together to clean up St Crispin.
“It’s important to come together and do something,” said Larissa. “And a litter pick is a nice and easy way of doing that.
“A lot of people don’t know that St Crispin Retirement Village relies a lot on volunteers in the coffee shop, bar, shop, restaurant and library. We want to show people who we are and it may interest a few more people to volunteer even a few hours of their time.”
Larissa says it will mean a lot to the residents of the independent retirement village to get involved with the community in this way.

“It’s very easy for that age range to be seen as over it now and to just sit in their armchairs,” the lifestyle coach added. “They really don’t. They’re active members of the community and this will mean the world to them.”
The Northants Litter Wombles, St Luke’s Primary School and the NTFC Community Trust are already behind the litter pick and with this newly expanded network, Larissa hopes they will build on it for years to come.
“It’s very important to have pride for your community and have a positive impact,” said Larissa. “When people move, they take that to their next community. A positive attitude will help everyone. Cleaning the community and looking out for each other is something we will all benefit from.”
The residents and team at St Crispin Retirement Village want to encourage anyone interested to come along.
“Even if it’s a few minutes of your day and not the entire afternoon, you will feel you’ve made a positive change,” Larissa concluded. “Help where you can and get to know your community. You never know where it might lead, with friendships and networking. There’s no downside.”
