The faces who took part in Northampton's Big Sleep Out in 2020 as this year's charity event goes indoors

Fundraisers are asked to sleep in cardboard boxes in wintry temperatures and can only use plastic sheeting, blankets and extra layers to stay warm - as many street homeless people do

Northampton Hope Centre is calling on people to sleep on the floor in their homes or gardens to raise money this month.

The homelessness charity has changed its annual Big Sleep Out fundraiser to the Big Sleep Out/In because of the current coronavirus lockdown.

All people of any age need to do is pay the sign up fee and pitch a tent or make a den on a hard floor for the night on January 29, with events held over Zoom.

Hope’s Big Sleep Out has been a highlight of the fundraising calendar for more than a decade and gives people an idea of the situation many people find themselves in each night on the streets of Northampton.

The virtual event is not designed to replicate what it is like to sleep rough but will give participants time to think about those less fortunate than themselves while supporting those in need.

The Hope Centre moved into Oasis House in 2012 and supports 120 homeless people every day, providing them with hot meals, showers, clothes and delivers educational classes and training.

Take a look back through our archive picture gallery, taken from the previous event at Franklins' Gardens in January 2020 when campers took to the Saints' ground with their makeshift tents to raise thousands for those living on the streets in Northampton.
