As 2023 draws to a close, let’s take a look back on the 28 businesses that have opened their doors across Northampton this year.
The year started off strong with a sandwich shop that has continued to take the town by storm, and the 27 businesses that followed did not disappoint.
While some of these businesses were new additions, others moved to brand new locations and left behind where they previously traded across Northampton.
Supporting our town’s businesses has never been more important and we should all continue to do so in 2024 – especially to keep these newbies going strong.

21. Grandbies – August 2023
Grandbies, in St Giles’ Street, is a family-run business and combines many aspects under one roof – a coffee house, clothing boutique and events supporting local creatives and musicians. Marion Brown hoped the Scandinavian-inspired haven would add a luxury coffee shop to the town, as well as a family-friendly environment and a commitment to the community. Photo: Grandbies

22. Il Giardino Coffee Shop – September 2023
Orlando Lupsia, a passionate chef with a deep love for Sicilian culture and cuisine, opened the Il Giardino Coffee Shop in Mercers Row on September 9. Orlando and his wife Claudia breathed new life into an old building, in what is a prime spot for footfall in the town centre. The couple, who also own the popular La Pazienza in Wellingborough Road, turned a forgotten space into a vibrant Sicilian-inspired coffee shop. Photo: National World

Former pub landlords Julia Story and Michael Pittam, who have more than 26 years of experience, launched The Village Kitchen Catering in September. They decided to put their decades of experience into providing exceptional catering services in their new business venture. 24. Olive and Baker – September 2023
The Olive and Baker deli opened in Weston Favell Shopping Centre in September, hoping to become a premium grab and go for customers. The venue is a mother and son venture for Charlie and Gurjeet Sapal, who offer homemade bread, olives, pastries and meal solutions – with options to visit at breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. It is located downstairs, near the main entrance at the side of Costa, Burger King and Jenny’s Restaurant. Photo: Kirsty Edmonds
