slowthai to be joined by idles, beabadoobee and others at rapper’s Happyland festival
Happyland, which has been curated by slowthai, will take place at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club on Saturday, September 25, with tickets on sale from this Friday.
slowthai will headline his inaugural Happyland festival in Northampton this summer, joined by some of the most exciting acts from the UK’s music scene.
Curated by slowthai, the one-day festival will take place at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in September and see the chart-topping rapper joined by Idles, beabadoobee, Shygirl, Easy Life, Pa Saileu, Greentea Peng, Ethan P Flynn and fellow Northants rapper Izzie Gibbs.
Billed as ‘The Happiest Place in The Universe’ with a ‘No Smile, No Entry’ policy, Happyland will be a belated celebration of slowthai’s number one album Tyron which was released in February.
slowthai said: “Happyland with happy folk. The place where we can laugh and joke.
“The place you can be yourself without judgment, expectations and impressions of someone else.
“The space from the shackles of the everyday. The mountain where we climb to run away.
“Imagine what you’ve never had when you come to Happyland - you will never be sad.”
As yet unable to have toured his recent album Tyron, Happyland will give fans the chance to see him live this year when he takes up the headline slot on the day.
The incredible run of artists playing alongside slowthai range from women slaying in their own lane –
Greentea Peng, Shygirl and beabadoobee - to like-minded punk cohorts Idles, laid-back Leicester five-piece Easy Life and local boy Izzie Gibbs.
They will be joined by BBC Sound Poll winner Pa Salieu and hotly tipped newcomer Ethan P Flynn.
In February this year, slowthai topped the UK album charts and the UK vinyl charts with his second album Tyron, selling more than double the units of his critically acclaimed, Mercury Prize nominated debut Nothing Great About Britain.
Tyron has cemented slowthai’s path to being one of Britain’s most revered and celebrated rappers, but his journey has still only just begun.
slowthai plays his ‘something to look forward to’ underplay tour of the UK earlier in September ahead of a full-blown live tour in March 2022 which includes two Brixton Academy shows.
The gig at the County Ground will follow a sold out show at the Roadmender on Friday, September 10.
