"Sexual health clinics in Northampton": Popular Googled search term one day after mini-heatwave in the town

"Sexual health clinics in Northampton was one of the most Googled phrases in the town on Thursday (April 1), one day after the mini-heatwave

Thursday was the day after the two-day mini-heatwave and also coincided with the recent easing of months of strict lockdown restrictions.

The heatwave saw thousands of people flock to parks around the town to bask in the sunshine at the same time as the Stay At Home message was dropped on Monday (March 29).

The new restrictions mean people can now meet outside - including in private gardens - in groups of up to six, or as two households.

So given people have more freedom now after being locked up at home since the end of December, the weather is improving, and the increase search traffic for sexual health clinics in the town, this newspaper contacted health professionals at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) for their sexual health advice.

An NHFT spokeswoman said: "Northamptonshire’s sexual health service is here to provide a welcoming and confidential service; colleagues are on hand to offer advice and support to help you maintain good sexual health.

"As Covid-19 restrictions lift and we are able to enjoy more social freedom it is important to ensure that you’re practicing safe, legal and consensual sex at all times.

"Wearing a condom correctly when having sex with a new or existing partner will help to protect against sexual transmitted infection and unplanned pregnancy.

"We have a host of information and videos which offer practical guidance on advice on practicing safe sex, including using condoms, on our social media channels. For more information about Northamptonshire Integrated Sexual Health and HIV service (NISHH) visit: nhft.nhs.uk/sexual-health.”

NHFT's main clinic is at the Northamptonshire Integrated Sexual Health and HIV department (Area R) at Northampton General Hospital.

The clinic's opening times are: Monday 8.30am – 7.30pm, Tuesday 8.30am – 3:30pm, Wednesday 1.30pm – 7.30pm, Thursday 8.30am – 3.30pm, Friday 8.30am – 3.30pm.

It will be closed on Good Friday April 2 and Easter Monday April 5.
