Search starts to award prize to council house tenant with best garden

The Northampton Partnership Homes (NPH) annual garden competition to find the most green-fingered tenant is back for its fourth year

Each year, the competition helps to showcase some amazing gardeners with the best blooms, brightest pots and eco-friendly ideas.

There is a wide range of categories to choose from, allowing any tenant can apply. Whether you have a small garden or even an indoor garden, you can get involved.

Cam Whyld from NPH said: “Every year, residents tell us how much gardening helps their wellbeing and mental health.

"That’s why it was important for us to continue with the competition this year despite recent events, as lots of people may be spending more time in their gardens to help them relax.”

Last year’s winner of the best garden award, Cynthia Hawes, said: “People always told me I had a nice garden but I didn’t think it was good enough to enter into a competition.

"If it wasn’t for NPH’s housing officer telling me to enter, I never would have done it."

To encourage people to get gardening and spread some joy throughout their communities, NPH has also launched the ‘seeds of hope’ campaign on Facebook, where the team is giving out free packets of seeds for people to plant in their gardens.

The garden competition is free to enter and entries are only open to gardens cared for by NPH tenants or leaseholders.

If you live in a council home and love your garden, you can enter the 2020 competition by calling the competition organisers on 01604 837836 or register online here.
