A sea of orange lit up Daventry Town Football Club ground in honour of a young man who died from a cancerous tumour in his chest and an aggressive form of leukaemia.

The extended family of Zac Forskitt, 20, encouraged people to wear orange at the awareness day on March 7, which also raised £502.83.

It was organised by Madi Forskitt and her father, Dean, in aid of BacZac, a charity set up in Zac’s memory.

The charity was set up when Zac, from Northampton, was diagnosed with two rare forms of cancer.

Friends in Northampton and Nottingham where Zac was at university studying, with the aid of patrons of Old Northamptonians, pulled together to create #BacZac.

Zac lost his brave battle with cancer in March 2016, and it was decided from the experiences Zac’s family had experienced that a legacy would be created in his honour, helping other young adults going through similar situations.

Madi, who supports Daventry Town, said: “The awareness raised was just as fantastic as the money raised.

“It was so amazing to widen the awareness of the charity and we are so glad more people know about Zac and the charity now.”

She said there was a minute’s applause in honour of Zac at the match between Daventry and Bedford Town.

Madi added: “It was very emotional, especially when we did the minute’s applause.

“Me and my dad Dean wore our hats and tops, and the players and the managers from Daventry warmed up in the orange tops. Both Daventry and Bedford players and supporters purchased some of the charity merchandise too, which was amazing.”

The club and the family would like to thank everyone associated with the event for their support.
