Four schoolmates raised more than £2,500 for a charity supporting one of their mothers by cycling around 100 miles from Northamptonshire to Skegness.

Dino Gallone, Ethan Laporta, Dom Pritchard and Luca Cinquini-Steel completed the challenge and cycled home in aid of Kidney Research UK last week.

Ethan's mother Tanya is waiting for a transplant due to kidney failure so the friends wanted to raise money to help her - setting an initial goal of £200.

Dino's mother Cathy said: "It's absolutely brilliant they are really chuffed and it makes it all worthwhile.

"They were really tired when they first got there - the ride really knocked it out of them - and the way home was a lot of slower than the way there."

The 16-year-olds from Northamptonshire and Warwickshire, who all attend Rugby School, got into cycling when classes and other sports ended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As they got better and better, they decided to take on a challenge and combine it with a mini holiday - Kidney Research UK was an easy choice as Tanya has has been unwell for around three years.

They left from Ethan's home in Brixworth on Wednesday (July 15) and arrived in Skegness that evening, where they spend a couple of nights before heading home on Friday.

Cathy said: "When they got back they were very sore, very stiff and very tired but they did it.

"Funnily enough, I think they must have gone a slightly shorter way back as they wanted to make sure it was 200 miles and they were a mile or so off so they did a lap of the village - they did really well."
