Scarlett Brannan may only be eight years old but she is already bursting with pride for Northampton's NHS workers - and she is especially proud of her inspirational neighbour, Max, who works in a operating theatre.

After hearing about Covid-19 she sat down with her mum, Zara, to paint beautiful posters and banners to attach to her garage door to boost the spirits of her neighbours also living in isolation.

Scarlett, whose favourite TV show is Inside the Ambulance, said: "I first got the idea because of my next door neighbour who is an NHS worker.

"I wanted to put a smile on her face. I then thought 'what else can I do to make others smile'?"

The drawings are of colourful rainbows, which have been appearing in windows across the country as people try to stay positive while they are locked in their homes during the coronavirus outbreak.

She added: "My banners took me a couple of hours and my mummy did help me with these.

"Our street has pictures of rainbows in their windows and it puts a smile on peoples faces."

With permission from her neighbours, Scarlett has also been a busy bee drawing more posters to stick to their bins to give the waste collectors a boost while they're on their rounds.

Zara added: "I am extremely proud of Scarlett, she has always been a caring, thoughtful little girl and will always help anyone.

"I have never seen her so passionate about something. She started watching Boris' updates with us and turned around and said 'why aren’t people listening'? 'Why aren’t people taking it seriously'?

"She said 'I want to do something to change that and make people realise and make people smile again'.

"The neighbours have been amazing. Scarlett messaged all of them asking if she was okay to place posters on their bins so she could also make the bin men smile as they are key workers."

Scarlett wants to use this article to also thank all of the NHS staff and key workers up and down the country by saying "you are truly amazing, all of you."
