A Northampton sports team mascot will abseil down the National Lift Tower this weekend - weather permitting.

Bernie - who is Northampton Saints’ mascot - will be joined by ten other fundraisers for the 127 metre drop tomorrow (May 22), as long as the wind and rain stays away.

The team is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Northampton Saints Foundation (NSF), after what has been a difficult year for the charity.

The foundation has been impacted by Covid restrictions limiting their ability to undertake fundraising events and activities, but it has also been affected by an increase in referrals to the foundation programmes that support vulnerable young people.

All money raised by the fundraisers will go towards the foundation continuing to support more and more young people in the community.

Bernie said: “As the current situation is throwing curveballs and challenges at us all and I have really missed all the wonderful loyal supporters at Franklin's Gardens this last year, I have decided to turn this negative into a positive.

“I want to channel my energy and support into something new, something challenging, something outside my comfort zone, something that will be rewarding to me and many others.

“Let’s go TEAM NSF and step over the edge!”

Bernie and the rest of the NSF abseil team have taken on the challenge with the aim to inspire people to support them and help raise funds for the foundation so they can continue to educate the young people in need of help.
