A parrot that went missing from his Northampton home in August last year has been found a couple of miles away.

Rosco the parrot, who belongs to Tianna Coulson, took off from his home in Abington five months ago.

The Quaker parrot had been spotted a few times over the months, but his 13-year-old owner and her grandmother were not able to get hold of him.

That was until he landed on a family’s porch yesterday (January 18), just down the road in Weston Favell village.

Philippa Plater, the resident of the home Rosco landed on, said: “We heard a noise on the front of the house, we looked up and saw there was a bird sitting on the porch.

“He flew up to the windowsill outside my daughter’s bedroom, so they opened the door and he came straight in.

“It was like he was waiting and wanting to come in.”

Philippa knew she had seen a missing bird post on social media somewhere and managed to locate it on Next Door.

The mum first called the number on the post and then FaceTimed the owner to show them the bird to see if it was their pet.

Philippa added: “He was a lot more dirty than he was in the picture as he’d been out for months, but they knew straight away it was him.

“It was a lovely moment as the granddaughter was saying ‘oh my goodness, it’s Rosco.’

“Within 15 minutes they had arrived to collect him, but while we were waiting, Rosco just sat on our shoulders and cuddled up. You could tell he was really tame.”

The owners were extremely surprised that Rosco had been found after so many months, but also happy and grateful.

“We were in total disbelief as we just thought it was not possible,” Tianna’s grandmother added.

“We actually thought he was dead and we’d given up hope of finding him really.

“When he first went missing, Tianna was very tearful, so it was amazing to find him. She is so happy.”

As a token of appreciation, the owners kindly gave Philippa’s daughters - 10-year-old Harriet and 14-year-old Imogen - a small sum of money to treat themselves with.
