Colleagues who all work for a popular local pub are taking on a walking challenge to raise money for charity and to cement their community pub status.

Hide AdThe Trumpet in Wellingborough Road, Weston Favell has 16 members of staff who will walk 100km in fancy dress between them this month.
As they are currently working in pods to make sure they are Covid-safe, each pod will take on the challenge separately.
The first pod will set off from The Trumpet on Tuesday (September 8), walk to and around Abington Park and stop off at fellow Greene King pub, The Abington, before the second pod do the same later in the month.

“So coming out of this we wanted to use September as a month to raise money in the pub, but we also wanted to do a bit more, especially as a lot of charities have missed out on so much fundraising.
“As a team, we came up with walking 100km rather than just raffles and similar things.

As staff pound the streets in full fancy dress, it is hoped that they will be able to raise at least £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as showing the community the pub is back open and is there for locals.
Steve added: “We could’ve done it with Fitbits behind the bar and we would have done it quickly, but we wanted to actually go out there so people can see us and so we could make a statement to the community that we are a local pub and we want to support charities.

“Now that we have an opportunity to do something and go out there, we want to do it at the earliest opportunity.
“This is us saying ‘we’re back open and we are here if you need us.”

In the meantime, donations for the 100km walk can be made on The Trumpet’s Facebook fundraiser.
