Police are trying to trace the owner of a box of ashes found in Northampton town centre last month.

The velvet box was picked up found in Abington Square, near to The Deco theatre, on Saturday, May 2.

It’s not known whether the remains are human or a pet but the Northampton Police enquiry desk team is keen to reunite them with their loved one.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "If you believe the ashes belong to you or your family, they can be collected from the Northampton Police Enquiry Desk in the Guildhall, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday."
