"Our Safer Roads team was out and about across the county yesterday, and the #SlowDownSaveLives message is not getting through to some drivers. A disappointing 293 speeding offences were recorded. Top speeds: 80mph in a 40mph limit & 48mph in a 30mph zone," the spokesperson said.

The high number of offences followed a previous warning earlier in the week from Northamptonshire Police.

"We’ve all seen the stories about really excessive speeds during Lockdown, but small increases also add up to big risks. In just two days 241 speeding offences were recorded on our roads. Have you let your speed up creep up?" the spokesperson asked.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Northamptonshire Safer Roads team warned drivers, cyclists and motorbike riders.

Heading out on the roads this weekend? Drivers, remember bikes are harder to see so always look twice to make sure it's clear before moving off. Cyclists and motorbike riders, never assume the driver has seen you and take extra care to be seen and #ArriveAlive
