Plans unveiled to open new farm shop and café at popular pick-your-own site in village near Northampton

Plans have been submitted to open a new farm shop and café at a popular pick-your-own site near Northampton.

The proposal relates to Sunnies & Spooks at Fromant and Sanders Farm in Kislingbury and would see an existing agricultural building change use to create a farm shop and café.

If approved, the development would allow the business to operate year-round, building on the success of its seasonal events, including sunflower, wildflower and pumpkin picking.

Harry Fromant, who runs the farm, said the business has grown steadily since launching its pick-your-own events four years ago.

Sunnies & Spooks at Fromant and Sanders Farm in Kislingbury have submitted plans to create a farm shop and café at the popular site.

He said: “We have been running a pick-your-own sunflower, wildflower and pumpkin patch for four years now which has been fantastic fun. We have steadily grown over that time and are incredibly grateful for the support we have received.

“Over that time we have also started to produce apple juice and honey on the farm. We sell this locally and at the pick-your-own events, and we would like to be able to showcase this local produce year-round from our site in Kislingbury and provide a community hub where people can come together.”

He added that the proposed shop and café could also give other local producers a platform to sell their goods, while providing a welcoming space for residents in the surrounding villages.

Planning documents describe the proposal as a way for the farm to diversify and improve its long-term viability.

The papers say: “The proposed development would be a community asset that would also enable the farm to diversify and generate some additional income.

“While not immediately essential to the existing farm business, the proposal would significantly improve the viability and efficiency of this part of the farm business.”

Sunnies & Spooks is already well known locally for its seasonal attractions. Over the summer, the farm opens a pick-your-own sunflower field for a limited period, alongside activities for children including a bale mountain and slide, pedal tractors, vintage tractors and a playhouse.

A target decision date for the application has been set for March 18.
