Plans submitted for bigger Northampton HMO and changes to town centre venue

A proposal to expand a house in multiple occupation in Semilong and plans to convert a building near the town centre for education use are among the latest planning applications submitted to West Northamptonshire Council.

The weekly list of applications also includes alterations to a venue in St Giles Street and several household extensions across the wider district.

In Semilong Road, an application has been lodged to change the use of a five-bedroom house in multiple occupation into a larger seven-bedroom HMO. The property at 47 Semilong Road is currently classed as a small shared house but the proposal would move it into the larger “sui generis” HMO category.

Elsewhere in the town centre, listed building consent has been sought for changes at The Priory on Orchard Hill. The plans would allow the building to change from office use to educational use, with minor amendments to the internal layout.

Another town centre proposal involves alterations to the exterior of The Optimist at 23–25 St Giles Street. The application includes replacement signage, new LED floodlights, wall lighting and decorative planter features.

Across the wider West Northamptonshire area, a number of residential and rural schemes have also been submitted.

In Upper Harlestone, plans seek permission to replace a metal gate with a traditional wooden five-bar farm-style gate and move it to the entrance of a driveway at Meadow Rise on Duston Road.

In Weston, developers have applied to demolish two agricultural buildings off Helmdon Road and replace them with six new homes.

Meanwhile, homeowners in Little Brington want to alter windows and doors at The Green on Nobottle Road, including replacing timber frames with uPVC and installing new lintels.

A property on High Street in Milton Malsor has submitted revised plans linked to a previously approved extension scheme, while a single-storey rear extension is proposed for a house in Sharmans Close, Cogenhoe.

Further afield, listed building consent has been requested at a barn in Silverstone to install solar panels on the west north-west facing roof and replace disused downpipes.

In Harpole, a homeowner has applied for a rear extension, a replacement storage building and new windows at a property on Upper High Street.

Residents can view the applications and submit comments through the planning section of the West Northamptonshire Council website or by writing to the council’s planning department at the Guildhall in St Giles Square within 21 days of the notice being published.
