Pictures show queues of foodies at sell-out outdoor Northampton festival

The teams behind The Smoke Pit and Bite Street NN cooked for a sold out food festival this weekend and might be back August Bank Holiday for round two

The chefs from The Smoke Pit and Hops and Chops - James and Matt Ingram - took to the road over the weekend with their mobile smoker to help feed the masses with favourites including Korean chicken wings, smoked Brisket and a live-fire roasted spit pig.

Pictures taken by Kirsty Edmonds show the queues at the food stands, Bite Street's own pop-up bar and and Saxby’s cider and gin cocktails from Gin and Temple.

Crispin Slee, who runs Bite Street, said: "I think it's safe to say Smoke Street caught fire at the weekend. All the tickets were sold out by Thursday and we sold a record amount of cider thanks to Saxby's bringing their cider hog, which is a vintage, red Chevrolet truck converted into a mobile bar. The atmosphere was great and the smell of the beef on the smoker was enough to have anyone running back for seconds.

"We are very sorry that we had to turn some people away. We wanted to make sure that there weren't too many people at the venue at any one time so everyone could maintain a safe distance. The good news is that following the success of the launch, we are already planning a second Smoke Street, which we hope will take place over the August bank holiday weekend. Watch this space!

"The event was a real boost for The Smoke Pit. Not only were they busy at Smoke Street, sales back at the restaurant took off following the swirl of excitement around the event. That was a real bonus as in this day and age local businesses need all the support they can get to surmount the trauma of lock down.

"I'd like to thank everyone who came and supported us and all the staff who worked tirelessly during the weekend to make the launch event such a success."

Smoke Street took place outdoors at Duston Mill in line with Government guidance with tables spaced 4m apart and two metre social distancing.

If you missed out, Bite Street NN, which is a street food pop-up that launched in 2019, features some of the region’s best street food traders and will run every two weeks this summer.
