People across Northamptonshire encouraged to contribute to Queen Elizabeth memorial project

People across Northamptonshire are being invited to share their memories of Queen Elizabeth II as part of a national project designed to preserve her legacy for future generations.

The Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial is a new online archive that aims to map key moments from the life and reign of Britain's longest-serving monarch, creating a permanent record of the impact she had on communities around the world.

Residents, organisations and community groups are all being encouraged to contribute memories, stories and experiences connected to Queen Elizabeth II, whether they met her in person or simply remember significant moments from her reign.

James Saunders Watson, Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire and the King's representative in the county, said thousands of people across the globe had been touched by the late Queen during her more than 70 years on the throne.

He said: “During the 70-plus years Queen Elizabeth reigned she met and touched the lives of thousands of people across the globe.

“If you or your community have a memory of Queen Elizabeth, please share it via the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial website.

“You don't need to have met the Queen to share a memory to the digital memorial. You can share any memory you have, for example, watching Queen Elizabeth on TV, or something that happened in your local area.

“Every memory submitted makes the memorial richer and more representative of Queen Elizabeth’s global legacy — and helps create a unique historic record preserved for future generations.”

People can support the project in several ways, including submitting their own memories directly to the website, encouraging friends and community groups to take part, or hosting events where people can come together to share and record their experiences.

Organisers hope the project will build a living archive of personal recollections, creating a lasting tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and capturing the role she played in the lives of people across Northamptonshire and beyond.

Memories can be submitted through the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial website.
